    Job Description

    Are you an aspiring to be a Health Physicist expert who is working toward completion of your Certification as a Health Physicist (CHP) or an experienced Certified Health Physicist who is looking to work in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) and work with Radiation Health professionals Are you looking for a position to grow yourself and provide leadership to other Health Physicist in the Naval Nuclear Laboratory Health Physics Community The Kesselring Site Radiation Health and Dosimetry unit is seeking a person to provide technical assistance on health physics topics, as well as efforts to grow themselves and others in the area of Health Physics. The KS Radiation and Dosimetry Compliance Engineer will be responsible for the execution and oversight of several Radiation Health Programs. This includes the development and implementation of new programs based on technologic advances. The successful candidate will be required to qualify as a Processor on the current Dosimetry System being utilized, as well as qualifying as a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) signatory. The successful candidate will be entering in on the ground floor regarding the development and implementation of a new Dosimetry System for the NNPP. This will require development of relationships with other Health Physics experts across the NNPP, such as through the attendance of periodic Technical Manager/Quality Manager (TM/QM) conferences. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the completion of Dose Investigation Reports in accordance with Corporate Dosimetry procedures.

    The successful candidate will need to qualify as an Internal Monitoring Operator and System Administrator responsible for oversight of all internal monitoring operations, including periodic calibrations and testing, and qualifications of other individuals in the unit. Being the System Administrator will require knowledge in radiation detections and measurement principles, with an emphasis on gamma spectroscopy. This knowledge will also support other applications that are being developed and implemented.

    The successful candidate will support the development and upkeep of local procedures used in various Radiation Heatlh and Dosimetry operations.

    The successful candidate will support the unit's continuing training program, including the development and delivery of health physics training and casualty training for Health Physicists. This will require collaboration with Corporate Dosimetry and the NNL Health Physics Community in the development phases.

    The successful candidate will support the KS Radiation Health and Dosimetry internal audit and surveillance program. They will also support the internal and external audits of KS Radiation Health and Dosimetry performed by others and will track actions and responses to those audits.

    Lastly, the successful candidate will be required to participate in the KS Emergency Response Organization.

    Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

    Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience or; Master's degree in a degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience or; Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified or qualified SIT and three years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program or CRE qualification or SRE qualified with nine years of experience.

    Preferred Skills

    Experience with dose assessment, curie estimating, and radiation health technical issues.

    Knowledge of Dosimetry Systems.

    Knowledge of radiation measurement and detection principles.

    Knowledge of gamma spectroscopy technology.

    Knowledge or experience in radiological environmental monitoring.

    Qualification as a Radiation Health Officer, or equivalent.

    Demonstrated teaming abilities.

    Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

    Pay Range

    $105,600 - $158,400 annually

    Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
