Non-Destructive Test Technician uses automated and manual techniques including ultrasound and radiography to perform non-destructive tests to identify errors or defects in equipment. May be responsible for testing engines or other mechanical components, storage or transport vessels like pipelines or containers, or major structures like bridges or tunnels. Being a Non-Destructive Test Technician requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Non-Destructive Test Technician works under moderate supervision. MAIN ACTIVITIES:
1. Customer Care
- Understand NDT standards and apply them
- Understand customer requirements and wishes
- Initialize or update the plant quality concept in the frame of the global Vallourec strategy
- Adapt these wishes in internal quality and procedures
- Explain and convince customer about the plants quality concept
- Participate in pre-production meetings and lead the part
- Be contact person for third party inspection
- Claim management
2. Stabilize and improve
- Knowledge of or ability to seek out the capabilities and limits of the equipment.
- Stabilize and improve the quality level of the equipment, processes, and product
- Analyse deviations in quality and build quality loops with steel making, rolling and heat treatment departments
- Support or guide NDT related CIT groups
- Collecting of NDT data (key performance indicators)
- Organize and hold training for the NDT operators on their daily job to qualify and certify as NDT Level 1 and/or 2.
- Develop NDT Level 3 training program to qualify and certify future Level 3s.
- Lead test plans, responsible to sign technical reports, conduct Internal and External Qualification Audits. Responsible to define, write and approve (as NDT Level 3) Standard Operational Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions (WI’s) for NDT/Quality.
3. Research and Development
- Formulate investments or R&D projects to fulfil customer requirements
- Lead investments and R&D projects in the plants
- Implementation of new technologies
- Improve existing NDT workflow, equipment and process reliability
4. CAPEX project
- Technical responsible of NDT/Quality investment: Small (< 1M$ USD), Medium and Large (> 5M$ USD) CAPEX budget.
- Provide technical solutions
- Liaison between Vallourec and Supplier
- Manage NDT OEM activities
5. Contribution to PC-NDT
- Participate in the annual meeting and working groups (R&D and other specific groups)
- Dedicate up to 4 weeks per year for knowledge exchange in “sister mills”
- Share knowledge and benchmarking opportunities with expert mission
(be contact point for a specific field of NDT)
- Define, together with the PC-NDT, Factory Acceptance Tests and Acceptance Tests for new NDT equipment.
- Prepare and deliver regularly Key Performance Indicators
- Lead working groups for specific topics (min. 1 per year)
