    Location: Waltham, MA

    This key role reports to the Head of Site Operations, Boston R&D and partners with the wider Leadership team to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of the teams’ objectives and vision, by establishing a strategy and roadmap that translates goals into tactical plans, strengthening the culture of the organization while driving growth through digital excellence and data-driven innovation. This role must be able to effectively navigate multiple diverse stakeholders, think strategically about key issues affecting R&D Operations, as well as demonstrate organizational savvy in dealing with senior executives and understanding how to get things done. Critically, this role requires a high degree of influencing skills and independent thinking. The Director, Business Planning and Operations will coordinate the budget activities for the department ensuring MTP/LTP timelines are met.

    What you will do:

    • Partner with the Boston R&D leadership team to develop the Site Operations Vision, 3 to 5 year Strategy, and scorecard goals.  Track delivery, produces performance updates and reports on / communicates the scorecard, ensuring Scorecard reporting is accurate and timely, and department is on track to meet or exceed performance targets – performing data collation and reporting.
    • Coordination and facilitation of Operations Leadership Team’s calendar to ensure effective meetings and tracking of required actions to ensure overall delivery of departmental goals. Prepare presentations and content.
    • Foster Close collaboration and cross functional partnerships to monitor projects they perform and identify any potential areas for improvement.
    • Strategically partner with the Communication Lead to identify & deliver key functional engagements and information sharing to share key achievements, new hires, key events, etc through appropriate channels.  
    • Budgeting and Financial Management for the Boston R&D team – monitor expenditure against agreed budgets, identifying variances and implementing corrective action if necessary.
    • Liaise with Finance in compilation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, collect financial and operational data. Engage and lead strategic discussions focused on Financial Planning, Budgeting, Resource Planning, and other business operations. Work closely with partners in Procurement, Legal, Finance and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure budget targets and cost-reduction goals are achieved.
    • Plan, develop, and adjust work methods and procedures to optimize use of Coupa, SAP, ePay, and Contracts applications. 
    • Resource Planning – ensure open roles are tracked and actioned in a timely manner – working with hiring manager, TA and HR. Coordinate on boarding activities to ensure new hire is orientated efficiently. New Talent Training is correctly built, assigned.
    • Lead Transformational change, translates project vision into practical project plans that ensure impactful solutions in a timely and efficient manner. Identifies and engages with key stakeholders, providing project status as appropriate ensuring timelines, deliverables, risks &  dependencies, budgets requirements and other success criteria are met.
    • Cultivate a broad network of relationships throughout Astra Zeneca, with affiliates and external partners, in the industry and area of expertise. In particular, liaise across the COO network to ensure sharing of best practices and alignment.
    • Investigate current and future Operation’s needs, communicating them appropriately and translating them into specific requirements.
    • Manage and monitor the performance of each functional area in Operations, pro-actively identifying any barriers to delivery or performance issues and taking action to address these challenges with LT
    • Demonstrate a Continuous Improvement mindset, influencing and guiding peer leadership and teams to adopt lean principles, and problem-solving methodologies.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • BA in business administration, business management, or another applicable major
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in similar role
    • Prior experience in pharmaceutical industry 
    • Proven track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change as well as delivering on programs with complex business deliverables.
    • Project-management expertise, demonstrated ability to lead multiple, complex projects from inception to close-out
    • Process Improvement expertise and experience (Six sigma, LEAN, and/or PMP certification or equivalent desirable)
    • Demonstrated ability to work across functions, regions and cultures.
    • Ability to influence, inspire, motivate and drive results without direct authority.
    • Outstanding communicator, able to persuasively convey both ideas and data, verbally and in writing.
    • Proven skills as an effective team player who can engender credibility and confidence within and outside the company
    • Ability to distil complex issues and ideas down to simple comprehensible terms
    • Leadership presence and confidence.
    • Ability to embrace and demonstrate a diversity and inclusion mindset and role models these behaviors for the organization
    • Proven track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change as well as delivering on programs with complex business deliverables.
