    Position Summary:

    The Network Manager performs and oversees the installation, operation and maintenance of complex local area and wide area computer networks at a Community College which uses information technology services to support such functions as instruction, business operation, student records, library services, messaging and e-mail systems and computer labs. The position may also provide a range of information technology services to the various computer users of the College including installation, configuration and testing of personal computers, printers and other such devices and the diagnosis and repair of operating problems with those types of equipment. The incumbent frequently performs hands-on hardware and software installation, testing, operation and servicing. The position’s work follows industry and Community College standards for wiring and network active/passive device installations.

    Example of Job Duties:

    Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology or other administrator, the Network Manager is accountable for assuring the technically sound and functionally appropriate installation, operation and maintenance of the College’s local area and wide area network systems, as well as of related personal computers, work stations and peripheral equipment and for providing technically competent installation, operation and maintenance of other campus computer hardware and software, as directed, through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

    • Effective functioning of the College’s networked computer systems.
      • accountable for performing the installation, operation and maintenance of the College’s computer systems networks to support the College’s academic and administrative purposes.
    • Support for the College’s information technology requirements.
      • accountable for researching, developing and recommending automated systems to assist in accomplishing the College’s services.
    • Install, manage and administer network servers and/or email servers.
      • accountable for the installation, management and administration of the college’s network servers and or email servers.
    • Administer and manage data and telecommunications systems and equipment.
      • accountable for the administration and management of the college’s data and telecommunications systems and equipment.
    • Guidance and assistance to faculty, students and staff in use of information technology systems.
      • accountable for helping faculty, students and staff in their use of the College’s network and computer systems.
    • Training, development and supervision of assigned staff.
      • accountable for providing training and guidance to assigned staff and student workers to contribute to their proficiency in the skill areas necessary for their effective job performance.
    In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.  These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

    Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technological discipline together with two (2) or more years of experience in computer system, network and software design, development and implementation; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

    Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: 

    • Computer hardware and software, local and wide area networking, software design and development, equipment assembly and installation.
    • Installing, operating, adapting, diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in computer and network equipment and software.
    • Leading staff members in a technological and academic environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Five (5) or more years' experience working as a Network Manager in a higher education setting with proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team serving students, staff, faculty and partners.
    • Experience and knowledge of best practices to manage, control, and troubleshoot server infrastructure including routing, switching and interfaces with operating systems and software.
    • Experience managing different types of server hardware and networking software servers including Mac servers, Infoblox, KACE, ISE, Equalogic, Rapid Recover, JAMF. 
    • Experience and proven ability to collaborate in the design and development of projects and structures that support the interface between the building network and critical operational systems including Phones, Video Management, Access Control, Emergency systems and Elevators.

    Starting Salary:

    Anticipated Salary; $66,949 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
