    What You'll Do

    The Pantex Facility Operations Director is responsible for organizing, planning, managing, and directing the support functions of assigned nuclear, explosive and balance of plant facilities to ensure successful and timely completion of missions in accordance with government and company directives. This includes management and administrative duties required to maintain the facility's safety envelope and work environment for assigned hazardous facilities to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

    • Reviews data and ensures the organization provides technical input concerning facility or equipment modifications, specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility
    • Develops metrics to track organizations performance
    • Coordinates with other senior managers in reviewing design criteria to ensure the facility modification/upgrade meets safety function(s) and is in compliance with explosive and/or nuclear operation technical safety requirements
    • Performs inspections of post construction, installation acceptance documents, and critical maintenance/surveillance documentation to ensure conformance with approved safety analysis, ensuring contractual requirements for the moderate (nuclear and explosive) hazard facilities are met prior to commencing operations
    • In the event of an emergency, ensures the organization takes initial mitigating actions, and for other non-emergency anomalies, performs initial evaluations and assessments to ensure proper corrective actions are identified and implemented; assists in defining recovery activities to ensure plant facilities can perform mission requirements
    • Works with Program Integration to prioritize life sustainment projects for plant facilities and systems
    • Manages exempt and nonexempt employees assigning work and tasks specifying task parameters, i.e. quality, quantity, resources and expected completion time; accountable for all output of subordinates
    • Aligns subordinate roles through personal effectiveness appraisals and the effective delegation of work through the supervision and evaluation of proposed role changes that will facilitate accomplishment of assigned work
    • Develops individuals in role to ensure technical competence and a thorough understanding of safety, quality and security aspects of the job
    • Develops plans to achieve tasks and goals and adhering to the plan in establishing the limits within which the subordinates' tasks must be accomplished
    • Conducts personal effectiveness appraisals and performance appraisals and determines pay increase of immediate subordinates within guidelines set by own manager and Human Resources
    • Ensures an adequate talent pool base among subordinates- once-removed and evaluating/developing the capability of individuals
    • Aligns proper relationships of subordinates within guidelines
    • Ensures that subordinates receive adequate coaching and training, and that pertinent regulations are observed

    What You'll Do Cont.

    • The Director is responsible for planning the required resources, cost, and schedules for the department
    • Accountable for all direct output assigned and for providing direct output support to his/her manager
    • Responsible for maintaining a thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state, DOE, corporate and plant rules, regulations and plant-wide operating policies and procedures
    • Responsible for application of established personnel and operating policies and programs, including Union Agreements, employee concerns, discipline processes, and safety, health and security standards
    • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management
    • Ensures that a feedback loop is maintained to communicate answers to issues, concerns and lessons learned in accordance with Integrated Safety Management (ISM) principals; ensures worker involvement in work planning, and determination of hazards and control in accordance with ISM principals

    Minimum Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 12 years of relevant experience; minimum 5 years of relevant supervisory/management experience
    • Twenty (20) or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
    • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 3 years job-related and at least 2 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.     Preferred Job Requirements

    • Bachelors’ degree in an engineering/science discipline is preferred
    • Ability to perform and document assessments and compile reports
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Experience interacting with different types of personnel at all levels inside/outside the organization is needed
    • An in-depth knowledge of Conduct of Operations/Formality of Operations, occurrence reporting/investigation, causal analysis, un-reviewed safety question (USQ) evaluations, hazard control evaluations and corrective action processes for nuclear facilities and hazardous non-nuclear facilities is required
    • Must have an in-depth knowledge of applying Documented Safety Analysis (DSA)/Safety Basis controls to facility structures, systems and components (SSC) and nuclear/explosive/non-nuclear processes
