Network Engineering Manager manages and implements the plans, designs, and development of all aspects of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Identifies network requirements for hardware, software, and services that will provide optimal solutions and meet the capacity requirement for the organization. Being a Network Engineering Manager conducts network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. SUMMARY
The Network and Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of Central Catholic High School’s (CCHS) network infrastructure and systems. Additionally, this role ensures the reliability, security, and efficiency of CCHS’s network and systems operations. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support CCHS's operations and academic objectives. This is a full time, year-round position and the Network and Systems Manager will report to the Director of Innovation and Academic Technologies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Infrastructure Management:
● Design, configure, and manage CCHS's local area network (LAN) and wireless network infrastructure.
● Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and reliability.
● Ensure network security through the implementation of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, VPNs, and other security measures.
● Plan and execute network upgrades and expansions to support CCHS's growth and evolving technological needs.
● Manage the telecommunications infrastructure, including VOIP phones, server and intercom system.
Systems Administration:
● Manage CCHS's server infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers running various operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux).
● Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software components, including operating systems, applications, and services.
● Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard critical data and ensure business continuity.
● Monitor server performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance tasks to optimize system performance and reliability.
Leadership & Team Collaboration:
● Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align network and systems initiatives with CCHS’s goals and priorities.
● Ensure effective collaboration with other IT team members to maintain the seamless operation of all technologies.
● Coordinate with external vendors and service providers to procure hardware, software, and services, and manage vendor relationships to ensure quality and cost-effective solutions.
Security and Compliance:
● Implement and enforce security policies, procedures, and best practices to protect CCHS's network and systems from cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
● Conduct regular security audits and assessments to identify risks and vulnerabilities, and implement remediation measures to address security gaps.
● Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards related to network and systems security, such as GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, etc.
Documentation and Reporting:
● Maintain accurate documentation of network and systems configurations, ERATE, procedures, and troubleshooting guides to facilitate knowledge sharing and continuity.
● Generate regular reports on network and systems performance, security incidents, and compliance status for management review and decision-making purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
● Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
● Proven experience (6 years) in network administration, systems administration, or a similar role, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
● Strong technical knowledge of networking protocols, hardware, and software (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Extreme).
● Proficiency in server administration, including experience with Active Directory, group policy, monitoring performance and file permissions. Additionally Windows Server, Linux/Unix, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
● Expertise in network security principles and best practices, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, encryption, and access controls.
● Demonstrates strong leadership and collaboration abilities, adept at effectively engaging with the IT team to cultivate a cohesive work atmosphere.
● Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
● Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on delivering timely and effective solutions to technical challenges.
● Industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), etc., are highly desirable.
● Ability to work after hours for occasional emergency support.
● Ability to lift computer hardware (30 lbs.), to climb ladders and maneuver in confined places and in places close to the floor and the like, and to perform technical operations from these positions.
