Network Engineering Director plans, designs, and develops all aspects of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Identifies network requirements for hardware, software, and services that will provide optimal solutions and meet the capacity requirement for the organization. Being a Network Engineering Director directs network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Develops monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Additionally, Network Engineering Director keeps abreast with the latest technologies and best practices and utilizes vendors and providers to provide additional resources to support networks. Usually is certified and has deep knowledge of vendor-specific products. Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Network Engineering Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Network Engineering Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Job purpose

    The Director of Engineering drives planning, design, and execution of the New England CAPEX portfolio. They work closely with members of Veranova & Site Leadership Team and various leaders at the site to ensure capital projects align with the site master plans, overall business strategy, and growth opportunities. Key accountabilities include developing and executing short/long term capital planning plans, developing, and executing control mechanisms to ensure on-time and on-budget capital projects at the New England site, and recommending equipment technologies to support continuous improvement in safety, environmental, and operational excellence. 

    Principal accountabilities

    • Develop and execute the 5-Year Site(s) CAPEX Plan and secure appropriate operational and capital funding so that facilities, equipment, computer systems (including ERP and compliance systems) meet all production requirements.
    • Work closely with the site GM and local leadership EHS teams to define and execute capital projects to support and continuously improve EHS equipment controls.
    • Work closely with Global Head of Engineering, GM’s, and Commercial to define and execute capital projects to support commercial strategies to meet budgeted revenue and acquire new business.
    • Monitor and control monthly capital project performance for safety, quality, and financial performance. Action staff to investigate areas of concern and follow-up to ensure priority corrective actions are initiated and completed.
    • Assign, direct, and coordinate efforts of matrixed subordinates and other company resources to effectively utilize manpower and assets to maximize efficiency and profitability to achieve financial objectives.
    • Develop and provide input on site equipment and infrastructure requirements to support the Site Master Plan and the 5-Year Operating Plan
    • Participate in business activities as required; capital project prioritization, new/novel products/technology evaluation, alliances with outside technology companies, business rationalization/expansion, etc.
    • Provide technical leadership for matrixed employees through effective communications, coaching, training, and development; provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate prompt improvements and enhanced working relations. Ensure recruitment of high caliber individuals to meet delivery of business objectives achieved through talent management program and succession planning.
    • Direct and provide leadership to drive a Continuous Improvement strategy, ensuring collaboration and sharing of best practice across Veranova and with external partners to maintain effective operations and cost control.
    • Collaborate with the Global Head on Engineering on establishing and executing a global work process for completing CAPEX and other engineering projects that ensures EHS and technical reviews as the project progresses through the stages of the work process.
    • Ensure the site is aligned and following the Veranova engineering standards where applicable, such as for potent compound containment and design of high hazard operations.
    • Take on any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

     Scope

    • Directs and coordinates CAPEX activities across the New England Sites with approval limits as defined by the Company Delegation of Authority matrix.
    • Works closely with members of Veranova Leadership Team, site General Managers, and local leadership teams to ensure capital projects support site master plans, overall business strategy, and growth opportunities.
    • The incumbent manages the business performance to assure both short- and long-term targets are achieved. If deviations from the projected budget occur or significant issues develop which could impact business performance keeps the site GM informed and initiates corrective action as required.
    • Submit regular operating reports and presents project highlights and financial results at monthly meetings to the Veranova Leadership Team

     Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

    Essential 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or relevant discipline
    • 7 years of experience in leadership experience managing a capital budget of $3-$6million in total and individual projects in excess of $6 million 
    • General Knowledge of RAGAGEP (industry standards including ASME, NFPA, IEC/IEEE, API, and ISPE, and general principles of process safety.
    • Experience working in an API manufacturing facility handing potent compounds
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • A strong safety awareness and a working knowledge of EHS requirements in a chemical or API manufacturing facility

    • Ability to demonstrate and commit to the principles of process safety management and ability to provide technical leadership and support
