Network Engineer develops and deploys plans and designs of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Conducts network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Being a Network Engineer defines monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Troubleshoots network issues and develops appropriate solutions, resources, and deployment processes. Additionally, Network Engineer keeps informed of the latest technologies to enhance knowledge of networking hardware, software, and best practices. May be certified in vendor-specific products. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Network Engineer work is closely managed.   • Job Summary:   

    Our Junior Network Engineer will have 3-4 years of solid experience. A strong work ethic is required as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision. This role reports into the Network Services Manager based out of NY.

     

    Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

    The duties of the Network Engineer include, but are not limited to:

    • Strong work ethic required, able to work with minimal supervision and report into the Network Services Manager based out of NY.

    • Demonstrate strong communication skills while interfacing and coordinating with other departments and staff to accomplish your tasks.

    • Troubleshoot/ analyze escalated helpdesk issues reported by users. Identify any trends and make recommendations on improving process and reducing issues.

    • Install, support, and maintain network infrastructure.

    • Evaluate design of network and make recommendations on tuning and improving performance.

    • Document and maintain network administration procedures and policies.

    • Perform network address assignment, manage DNS and DHCP.

    • Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.

    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

    • Demonstrate knowledge and make recommendations on security standards and practices.

       

    Requirements and Qualifications:

    • Escalation point for Helpdesk, knowledge of Windows support

    • Network protocols, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN

    • Voice technology experience with in house PBX and hosted PBX systems.

    • Experience managing voice and data circuit installs.

    • Storage communication protocols, such as fibre channel, iSCSI, FCoE

    • Configuration and maintenance of Fortigate Firewalls

    • Configuration and maintenance of Riverbed Technology

    • Configuration and maintenance of HP/ Aruba switches, switching and routing.

    • Experience with monitoring tools and setup

    • BS or MS degree in Computer Science/ Engineering or related field.

    • 3-5 years minimum of experience network implementations, diagramming, code updating and firmware patching, project planning, and management of third party vendors.

    • Excellent verbal, written communication, and documentation skills and can provide example documentation.

    • Excellent references

    • Although specific certifications are not required, they are a big plus. Including:

    • Cisco certifications (CCNA or higher)

    • Checkpoint Security certifications

    • A , Network , or Security certifications
