Network Engineer develops and deploys plans and designs of network systems that will meet an organization's requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Conducts network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. Being a Network Engineer defines monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand. Troubleshoots network issues and develops appropriate solutions, resources, and deployment processes. Additionally, Network Engineer keeps informed of the latest technologies to enhance knowledge of networking hardware, software, and best practices. May be certified in vendor-specific products. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Network Engineer work is closely managed.     Summary

    Performs network services from network design through implementation, maintenance, and upgrading of existing networks. Analyzes design, specifications, and related documents. Performs general LAN/CAN/WAN administration. Schedules conversions and cutovers. Coordinates with all responsible users and sites to resolve network or system incidents. Translates business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, CAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs and orders. Performs engineering analysis of telecommunications alternatives in support of strategic modernization efforts and telecommunications enhancement design for medium and large-scale telecommunication infrastructures. Assists telecommunications end users, telecommunications operations personnel, and telecommunications strategic program management with network interfaces.

    Job Qualifications

    • A Bachelor's Degree in a technical field is highly desired which will be considered equivalent to two (2) years of experience.
    • A Master's degree in a technical field will be considered equivalent to four (4) years of experience.
    • NOTE: A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, or similar degree will be considered as a technical field
    • Active DoD TS//SCI Security Clearance with poly required.
    • Significant experience provisioning and sustaining network infrastructures.
    • Experience developing, operating, and managing networks required to operate in a secure PKI, IPSEC, or VPN enabled environments.
    • Experience with CISCO network equipment. i.e. 2800 series, 6509, 6513, 3825, 3750, 4900, ASR-1004 and 1006, etc.
    • Broad technical experience and knowledge of peer-to-peer distributed storage networks, peer-to-peer routing, and application messaging frameworks.
    • Understand routing protocols, QOS, be able to implement traffic shaping and policing on the network and understand IPSEC tunneling.
    • Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certified at the Associate level in Cloud (CCNA Cloud)., Routing & Switching (CCNA Routing & Switching) or Security (CCNA Security) with a preference to be certified at the professional level, Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP).

    Network Engineer, Jr.

    • Seven (7) years of experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and technical support of multi-platform, multi-system networks to encompass diagnosing network performance shortcomings and designing and implementing performance improvements.
    • Seven (7) years of experience designing and implementing network solutions for complex, high performance systems composed of UNIX or LINUX-based hardware platforms.

    Network Engineer, Mid

    • Ten (10) years of experience.
    • A Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline will NOT count towards the experience requirement.

    Network Engineer, Sr.

    • Fourteen (14) years of experience.
    • Sixteen (16) years of experience in the planning, design, architecture, development, implementation and technical support of multi-platform, multisystem networks to encompass diagnosing network performance shortcomings and designing and implementing performance improvements.
    • Fourteen (14) years of experience designing and implementing network solutions for complex, high performance systems composed of UNIX or LINUX based hardware platforms.
    • Significant experience with CISCO network equipment, i.e. 2800 series, Nexus 9000 series, 6509, 6513, 3825, 3750, 4900, ASR-1004 and 1006, etc.
    • Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certified in Cloud, (CCNP Cloud), Routing & Switching (CCNP Routing & Switching), or Security (CCNP Security) with a preference to be certified at the Expert Level - Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE).
