Monitor Technician examines heartbeat patterns on electrocardiograph monitors. Makes note of irregular rhythms and monitors changes in heartbeat. Being a Monitor Technician provides notes to medical staff in charge of the patient. Ensures that monitors are functioning properly. Additionally, Monitor Technician may require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Monitor Technician works under moderate supervision. UPMC East is currently hiring a full-time Monitor Technician to work three 12-hour shifts per week.
This position will also have weekend and holiday requirements.
As a Monitor Technician, you’ll be providing continuous visual surveillance of numerous patient cardiac rhythm monitors and notify appropriate nursing personnel immediately of changes and/or life-threatening dysrhythmias. Provide continuous visual surveillance of numerous patient cardiac rhythm monitors and notify appropriate nursing personnel immediately of changes and/or life-threatening dysrhythmias. Performs quality EKGs. Place and scan Holter monitors. Transtelephonic Pacemaker Clinic (if cross-trained). Work is performed in patient care areas throughout the hospital. May be exposed to chemicals and infectious diseases.
