Monitor Technician examines heartbeat patterns on electrocardiograph monitors. Makes note of irregular rhythms and monitors changes in heartbeat. Being a Monitor Technician provides notes to medical staff in charge of the patient. Ensures that monitors are functioning properly. Additionally, Monitor Technician may require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Monitor Technician works under moderate supervision. Responsible for watching the oscilloscope which displays EKG signals, to record EKG tracing and to operate the computer and keyboard. Position requires prolonged viewing in a restricted setting of cardiac monitors. All duties are performed in accordance with hospital and Patient Services Policies and Procedures and professional standards of care.
Documents, records and reports rhythm strips.
Records rhythm strips and operates telemetry equipment appropriately.
Maintains proper function of equipment.
Maintains telemetry log book.
Answers phone and routes messages to appropriate personnel.
Provides additional departmental support.
High School Diploma or GED required. Prefer previous monitor technician experience.
