Mine Foreman supervises a staff who prepares, inspects, and works in mining projects such as underground or surface mining. Ensures the staff performs project research, design calculations, and records accuracy of mining activities. Being a Mine Foreman may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or in a related area. May require certification by the MSHA. Additionally, Mine Foreman typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Mine Foreman manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.     SUMMARY
    Collects materials in the field following standardized sampling methods and/or prepares materials following standardized methods and/or conducts standardized physical and chemical tests on materials by performing the following duties.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Tests coal,or other materials for specific analytical qualities.

    Prepares coal or other materials for analytical processes.

    Collects samples of coal, or other materials as directed.

    Maintains analytical equipment, preparation equipment and sampling equipment as necessary to ensure adequate operation.

    Prepares data for reporting following established procedures.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    High school diploma or general education degree (GED);

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
    Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
