Mine Foreman supervises a staff who prepares, inspects, and works in mining projects such as underground or surface mining. Ensures the staff performs project research, design calculations, and records accuracy of mining activities. Being a Mine Foreman may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or in a related area. May require certification by the MSHA. Additionally, Mine Foreman typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Mine Foreman manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Responsibilities include:
- Manage and supervise projects from start to finish
- Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans
- Allocate general and daily responsibilities
- Ensure manpower and resources are adequate
- Supervise workers, subcontractors, and work crews
- Implement safety measures on-site
- Ensure all legal requirements, building codes, safety regulations, and local ordinances are adhered to
Qualifications include:
- Proven experience in the construction industry, with a willingness to learn & lead
- Strong knowledge of various construction trades such as masonry, roofing, etc.
- Proficient in using hand tools and power tools
- Capability to perform heavy lifting when necessary
- Ability to fabricate materials as needed
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Good time management abilities
