Mine Foreman supervises a staff who prepares, inspects, and works in mining projects such as underground or surface mining. Ensures the staff performs project research, design calculations, and records accuracy of mining activities. Additionally, Mine Foreman typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Mine Foreman manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Extensive knowledge of department processes.     Objectives

    Work as part of a team to mine quality underground limestone for the Sugar Creek cement manufacturing and related operations; to provide material handling, utility, inspection and general labor safely and expertly; to maximize the mine’s efficiency in an environment of continuous improvement.

     

    Nature and Scope

    1. Operate mobile equipment as required to meet production targets.
    2. Assist the Miner I and M&Es as requested.
    3. Perform general labor services to ensure good housekeeping for a safe and efficient operation.
    4. Conduct proactive/preventive inspections and maintenance on all mine mobile and stationary equipment and document findings as requested.
    5. Identify, correct, and report safety and environmental concerns and work practices that may affect the Health & Safety of employees or other parties.
    6. Serve as a member of the Continuous Improvement Group to resolve daily performance problems.
    7. Handle materials both on surface and underground as needed.
    8. Cross train on all equipment in order to fill in when needed.

     

    Specific Accountabilities

    1. Must be able to work underground or in the cement plant as required.
    2. Must be able to operate mobile equipment in underground mine as well as above ground.
    3. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and capable of working with little or no supervision.
    4. Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and inspections on mobile equipment and all underground equipment.
    5. Must be capable of performing inventory measurements and reporting as required.
    6. Ability to assist Miner I and mine maintenance as needed
    7. Keep up to date on all mine procedure changes and be instrumental in developing new procedures as required and participate in required training.
    8. Ability to perform immediate basic repair to facilitate plant operation.
    9. Able to perform proactive/predictive analysis techniques and apply them daily.
    10. Write and/or contribute to daily reports and other routine reports about special projects or incidents.
    11. Fill out and follow up work order requests and follow up to ensure repairs are completed.
    12. Inspect for Safety & Health violations and initiate/request corrective action to meet Federal and State regulations.
    13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
    14. Work on rotating day, afternoon, and night shifts, including weekends and paid holidays as schedules dictate.
    15. Be willing to cross train to eventually perform in all mine duties.

    Qualifications:

    Education & Experience: A High School diploma or GED.  Knowledge of mining operation (preferred); mobile equipment operation; some mechanical/electrical skills; good communication skills, able to perform physical labor.

    Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English.

    Mathematical Skills: Ability to do basic mathematical calculations at high school level.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited guidelines exist.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    • MSHA 40-Hour training

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, confined space, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, and explosives.  The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
