Mine Foreman supervises a staff who prepares, inspects, and works in mining projects such as underground or surface mining. Ensures the staff performs project research, design calculations, and records accuracy of mining activities. Being a Mine Foreman may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or in a related area. May require certification by the MSHA. Additionally, Mine Foreman typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Mine Foreman manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Qualifications:
Education & Experience: A High School diploma or GED. Knowledge of mining operation (preferred); mobile equipment operation; some mechanical/electrical skills; good communication skills, able to perform physical labor.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to do basic mathematical calculations at high school level.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited guidelines exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
