Mine Foreman supervises a staff who prepares, inspects, and works in mining projects such as underground or surface mining.     Detailed Description


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides technical direction to linemen.
    • Performs, supervises and trains others in all types of construction and maintenance on transmission conductors, structures and equipment, both energized and de-energized.
    • Carries out work order assignments, interprets prints, and prepares daily time sheets, material tickets, and field and inspection reports as required.
    • Leads and directs the work of crew including coordinating schedules, routing and executing of jobs assigned and planning and laying out the specific work assignments on the job.
    • Maintains a first-aid card and the ability to perform pole top resuscitation and remove a worker from a structure.
    • Responsible for observance of safety rules by all co-workers.
    • Maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class "A" license and operates DOT regulated automotive equipment typical for high voltage transmission line operations, construction and maintenance work.
    • Sets up safe clearance with dispatchers and operating personnel.
    • Responsible for appraising condition of the line, equipment and right-of-way while performing regular duties and for advising supervision of any defects or condition that needs attention.
    • Responsible for prompt restoration of service during outage.
    • Responsible for having all equipment maintained in ready-working condition.
    • Completes annual performance appraisal forms and discusses with the employee.
    • Does any other work of equal or lesser skill within the capabilities of the individual to meet emergencies or other operating needs.
    • Because Tri-State is an electric utility with continuous service obligations to its customers, regular, reliable, and predictable performance of the essential functions and responsibilities is an essential function of the job.
    • Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.

    REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Training:

    • The equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program, or certificate program, in power line maintenance, power utility maintenance and construction or similar electric utility line education or training, or equivalent experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

    • Have good health and physical ability adequate for strenuous work.
    • Must be able and willing to operate and work from aerial trucks up to 110 feet.
    • Must be able to climb wooden and steel structures up to 300 feet.
    • Have thorough knowledge of the layout and characteristics of electrical transmission lines in area.
    • Be capable of applying artificial respiration on or off ground and be able to render practical first-aid.
    • Must be able to meet all Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) requirements.
    • Must develop and maintain a comfortable level of computer skills in the MS Windows environment using MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Access. Computer usage will include INDUS, Passport and Cascade.
    • Be willing and able to work extra and irregular hours as the utility needs may require, and willing to work under unusual or special working conditions, storms, extreme temperatures and winds, darkness, and similar and various outdoor working conditions.
    • Possess a considerable degree of skill to perform work by following standard methods of procedure as well as the ability to plan and perform a sequence of operations or duties when standards or recognized operations methods are inapplicable or are not available.
    • Be able to exercise judgment in frequently making decisions and regularly directing a group of workers.

    Experience

    • Six (6) years of appropriate power line maintenance and construction experience including at least two years as a Journey Level or Lead Lineman or have acceptable equivalent experience.

    Other:

    • Must reside within a 60-minute response time to the base location.
    • Must be willing to travel 75% of the time and attend training and conferences related to the areas(s) of assigned work, as appropriate.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.
    • Must be able to demonstrate that he or she can perform all of the essential functions of the position.

Incumbent will also push/pull items up to 100lbs. Incumbent is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear. Incumbent must have finger dexterity, good vision, good color vision, good hearing, and ability to speak clearly, and handle intricate work.
    • Mental demands: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to read, write, perform basic math, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, and present information to others and work under pressure.
    • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to dust, extreme heat and cold, vibrations, noises and exposed to electrical risks associated with working on or around energized and de-energized high voltage power lines and works around large industrial operating equipment. Will operate machinery and work at heights in excess of 200 feet.
