Millwright maintains industrial machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand and power tools. Moves, assembles, installs or dismantles machinery. Being a Millwright interprets schematic diagrams, blueprints, and sketches. Analyzes plans for new equipment and maps out space to unpack and assemble new equipment. Additionally, Millwright troubleshoots problems and repairs or replaces worn or broken parts as necessary. May use equipment like forklifts, aerial lifters, and cranes to move heavy or unwieldy machinery. May perform welding, fabrication, or calibration as needed. Follows all work site safety requirements and regulations. Typically requires a high school diploma. May require OSHA Forklift Operator Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Millwright works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Millwright typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. Job Description
Install, maintain and repair machinery and equipment in a safe and productive manner. Operate hand, machine and power tools, forklifts, manlifts, and welding and torch equipment.
1. Assemble and install equipment, using hand and power tools.2. Align equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
3. Assemble machines, and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools or power tools.
4. Bolt parts, such as side and deck plates, jaw plates, and journals to basic assembly. 5. Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
6. Position and erect equipment using blueprints and schematic drawings per pre-determine work procedures. 7. Attach moving parts and subassemblies with hand tools and power tools.
8. Measure, design and build custom fitted components as needed during course of project.
