Microbiologist Trainee

We are seeking a Microbiologist in Training who will be a strategic leader that provides guidance and support to the team to ensure accurate work flow.

This key role will work with a group of analysts and technicians to ensure quality data, timely results, and compliance to ISO 17025 and FDA standards.

Ideal candidate will be capable of working flexible or long hours due to special projects.

Job Description :

• Provide operational, technical and administrative leadership to the Microbiology Department through management, planning and allocation of resources
• Develop, measure, and maintain processes to increase accuracy of testing and turnaround time
• Ensure that all tests are performed as per the clients’ expectations and interacts with them to provide test results and recommendations
• Ensure execution of the QA / QC program with regard to all operations and documentation requirements
• Maintain all quality management records for the Microbiology Department
• Strategically interact with other departments and with the Management team in maintaining and improving the company’s Management system
• Effectively coach and mentor the staff of the Microbiology Department to facilitate their personal and professional growth
• Responsible for the execution of all ISO and QC requirements
• Proactively manage the Microbiology staff relating to hiring, training, termination, and performance management issues
• Using written and verbal skills, effectively communicate with clients on samples provided. This may involve communicating with governmental agencies such as the FDA and USDA in explaining test results on behalf of the client
• Manage the staff to consistently produce accurate results focusing on both test results and time consideration / expectations.

Ensure all results consistently stand up to internal and external audit standards and criteria

• Managing the staff includes developing an ongoing business analysis resulting in recommending, implementing and maintaining practices and processes to continuously increase accuracy, productivity and efficiency
• Proactively ensure that appropriate equipment and technical resources are provided and maintained for the work done in the department
• Maintain a wide-ranging familiarity with new developments in technology
• Review and validate results and final reports prior to issuance to clients
• Coordinate all relevant QC records pertaining to the calibration, validation and maintenance of equipment, and the continuous training of employees

Job Qualifications :

• BS degree in Microbiology or Food Science
• 7 to10 years’ technical lab experience and 5 to 7 years managerial experience
• Effective interpersonal skills with strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Experience in broad food testing
• Experience in creating shelf life programs and developing control / monitoring programs in a high sample volume / production environment
• Strong quantitative skills, proven attention to detail with effective organizational skills
• Proven ability to develop, adapt, and validate testing methods
• Proven expertise in relevant technology
• Proven problem solving, trouble shooting and critical thinking skills
• Excellent computer skills required Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint; knowledge of LabWare LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) desirable
