Meter Reader jobs in Tennessee

This is a full-time position responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of a water meter reading program. Employees in this position will read residential and commercial water meters, complete minor water meter maintenance assist with field testing meters for accuracy and other related duties as necessary. Employees in this class are required to work indoors and outdoors regardless of weather and will be exposed to chemicals, loud noise, dirt, dust, and various types of equipment.

Minimum Requirements

HS degree or Equivalent

Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 75 lbs.

Possession of a valid CDL Class B or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment

Responsibilities

• Reads residential and commercial water meters with AMR computer; reads meters manually as necessary; records readings making necessary calculations.
• Assists with field testing of customer meters for accuracy
• Performs minor field repairs; replaces damaged meter boxes and lids; cleans out meter boxes; checks for meter leaks.
• Performs customer service duties including service turn-ons and turn-offs, re-reading meters to resolve complaints, hanging door hangers; notifies customers of water interruptions and of the type of work to be performed.
• Assists with traffic control and light maintenance of water repairs as needed.
• Installs and repairs wire harnesses as needed.
• Helps to load or unload trucks
• Operates a variety of hand tools
• Investigates customer complaints regarding readings, meter registration, and other related concerns
• Performs additional duties or emergency duties after normal working hours when requested by supervisor.
