  • Job Summary
    This position performs technical duties in the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas services for residential and commercial services. Job Duties

    Completes reports and maintains related documentation.

    Coordinates and performs Atmospheric Corrosion Survey.

    Identifies and repairs issues identified through the Atmospheric Corrosion Survey.

    Performs and coordinates preventive maintenance efforts to minimize potential atmospheric corrosion issues by cleaning, painting, and inspecting existing meter sets.

    Repairs and maintains meter sets; sets meters for new construction and existing homes; ensures correct pressure settings.

    Disconnects and reconnects gas services.

    Interacts with customers to discuss any potential maintenance work to be performed.

    Locates and marks underground gas lines.

    Investigates, identifies, and repairs gas leaks.

    Loads and unloads parts and materials.

    Operates a variety of hand and power tools.

    Performs related duties.

    Participates in on-call rotation schedule, and is first point of contact for emergency after hour calls.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

    Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

    Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver"s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

    Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas distribution systems.

    Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations.

    Knowledge of natural gas appliances.

    Knowledge of the principles and practices related to the handling of natural gas emergencies.

    Knowledge of meters and regulators.

    Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, city codes, and department policies and procedures.

    Knowledge of computers, tablets, smartphones, and job-related software programs.

    Skill in the calibration and operation of gas detection equipment.

    Skill in problem solving.

    Skill in prioritizing and planning.

    Skill in interpersonal relations.

    Skill in oral and written communication.
    Physical Requirements

    The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, walking, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

    The work is typically performed in a stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and natural gas. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

    The Regulatory Compliance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

    GUIDELINES

    Guidelines include the State of Georgia Code Title 46, the Code of Federal Regulations, the Natural Gas Fuel Code, city and county ordinances, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

    COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

    The work consists of related technical duties. The need to respond to potentially dangerous emergencies contributes to the complexity of the position.

    The purpose of this position is to install, repair, and maintain gas services to customers. Successful performance helps ensure the safe, effective and efficient operation of the natural gas utility system.

    Contacts are typically with co-workers, customers, vendors, fire and law enforcement personnel, and members of the general public.

    Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, motivate persons, resolve problems, and provide services.

    SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

    This position may have functional supervision over assigned personnel.
