Metallurgical Engineer designs and initiates processes for the manufacturing of metals from ores and for the operation of the related production equipment. Performs analysis and tests to aid in the development of new and improved metals and alloys as well as their applications to various products. Being a Metallurgical Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Metallurgical Engineer work is closely managed.     Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgical Engineer. In this role, you will work with engineers and technicians to direct and perform tasks related to metallurgical materials testing including metallography, mechanical testing, and sample preparation.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare, polish, and etch metallographic samples
    • Perform a variety of metallurgical evaluations including, but not limited to; microhardness, banding, carburization/decarburization, pitting, grain size, intergranular attack, macroetching, coating thickness, microetching, coating weight, general microstructure evaluations, etc.
    • Perform physical testing such as tensile, hardness, bend testing, and Charpy impact testing
    • Interpret data, review, and report testing results
    • Possess strong inter-personal skills for verbal and written communication with customers

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Materials Science or a related field
    • Minimum 2 years related work experience preferred but not necessary
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
