Merchant Card Customer Service Representative provides merchant bank card services to existing and new clients and acts as contact point for all merchant inquires. Responds to questions, researches and troubleshoots issues, processes billing and adjustment transactions. Being a Merchant Card Customer Service Representative assists with the set up and maintenance of services and processing systems including supplies and advertising collateral. Communicates new service offerings or changes to the clients. Additionally, Merchant Card Customer Service Representative may require an associate degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Merchant Card Customer Service Representative gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision. To be a Merchant Card Customer Service Representative typically requires 1-3 years of related experience or may have 0 years of experience with additional training, or certification. Job DescriptionUnder the direct supervision, this position assists utility customers over the telephone, in person, by fax, and electronically by email while following departmental policies and procedures.
Provides assistance in any and/or all aspects of starting, maintaining and closing utility accounts using applicable software including Hansen Information Technologies, Hummingbird Document Management, and Waypoint Electronic Billing.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Working knowledge of customer service techniques, database systems, web-based systems, billing systems and mobile dispatching systems
- Ability to deal effectively with others in a courteous manner.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to speak in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
- Ability to ask appropriate questions to obtain necessary information.
- Ability to make sound judgments regarding customer issues.
- Ability to apply and calculate various rates associated with City services.
- Ability to operate a personal computer.
- Ability to understand and operate a variety of computer programs simultaneously.
- Ability to cope with heavy public traffic both in person and by phone with constant interruptions.
- Provides back-up for Vital Statistics.
- Ability to multi-task.
Licenses/Certification
Required QualificationsRequires a high school diploma or its equivalent.
One to three year of administrative experience including public contact and basic office operation is required.
Must have typing skills, 30wpm is preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
Physical DemandsRequires considerable sitting and walking with occasional lifting of file drawers up to 10 lbs.
