Ed Herrington Lumber is a six-location full-service lumber company looking for a lumber and building materials (LBM) buyer.
The LBM buyer ensures that our vendors are providing the best combination of quality, service and price to our stores and customers.
The LBM buyer determines the best products to fulfill customer needs and demands; works closely with current and prospective vendors and develops and maintains a strong working relationship with them.
This position is accountable for profitability in the product lines that are managed. Effective communication with the sales team and other store locations are essential for the success of this position.
This is a non-exempt position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
3 years previous purchasing experience in the building materials industry
College education a plus
Experience in vendor negotiation
Experience in analysis and forecasting
Understanding of the buying cycles associated with the building materials industry
Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work activities
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Work and Excel
Occasional overnight travel
Responsibilities of the Position :
Purchasing :
Negotiate with vendors and make recommendations to the Purchasing Manager based on the following negotiated criteria :
Volume Rebates
Cash Discounts and Payment Terms
Growth Incentives
Buyback Programs
Merchandising and PK training
Co-o Advertising Dollars and marketing events
Locates products that fit our customers needs and presents them to management
Develops and implements programs to increase margin dollars by product line
Forecasts material requirements by analyzing trends and needs to establish stocking levels for each location
Manage product lines with focus on Lean continuous improvements processes
Ensures that vendors are providing quality products, competitive pricing and service to our stores and customers.
Product Management :
Oversees assigned product groups; plans exit strategy for discontinued items and the vendor returns of slow selling products
Reviews sales, turns, margins and gross profit dollars on products purchased
Store Support :
Ensures that stores are receiving updated information on products including the availability, vendor information and POS information
Communicates product updates and changes with the locations
Works closely with the merchandising manager and the marketing department to initiate specials and promotions.
Assists stores with product issues including shipments, quality, and defective materials by communication with the store and vendor
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
3 years previous purchasing experience in the building materials industry
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is largely a sedentary role with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; however, while performing the duties of this job the employee will need to frequently communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information;
