  • Railbelt Mental Health and Addictions (RMHA) is a behavioral health service provider that caters to approximately 1,800 residents in rural communities along the George Parks Highway in the interior of Alaska. The RMHA staff is comprised of dedicated professionals who provide behavioral health services, including prevention, outreach, direct clientele services, and crisis intervention.

    Position Title: Children’s Mental Health Clinician

    Salary: Starting at 65,000 per year and DOE

    Location: Serves 150 highway miles in the Northern Railbelt Region of interior Alaska, traveling to all communities, Nenana, Anderson, Healy and Cantwell, as needed.

    Reports to: Executive Director & Clinical Supervisor

    Basic Functions:

    The Children’s Mental Health Clinician is responsible for ensuring clinical integrity of the behavioral health program to make certain the achievement of program goals that follow State of Alaska regulations, CARF standards and RMHA policies.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Provide direct behavioral health services to children (0-22 years-old), including crisis stabilization; individual, family, and group therapy; and case management.

    2. Participate in training related to children’s mental health, suicide awareness and prevention, and legal obligations in working with children.

    3. Report to Director concerning the status of the program, clinician caseloads and all other requested information.

    4. Review clinical policies and procedures to ensure clinical integrity within the program. Policies will be reviewed annually and updated as needed.

    5. Provide prevention, outreach, and public education programs to community groups, funding permitted.

    6. Work cooperatively with referring agencies, community entities and other RMHA staff, including the consulting psychiatrist.

    7. Work directly with school districts, student living center and clinics to provide services.

    8. Complete required paperwork, including AKAIMS/InSync reporting and billing for time.

    9. Put all clients into the electronic health record (EHR), InSync/AKAIMS in a timely fashion.

    10. Organizes time, resources, energy, and workload in order to meet responsibilities.

    11. Participates in appropriate professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.

    12. Coordinate services and maintain liaison with referral services.

    13. Attend weekly clinical supervision with agencies clinicians.

    14. Maintain accurate and timely clients records and provide to the Director for the completion of monthly and quarterly reports. This includes AKAIMS/InSync reporting and billing for time.

    15. Be available for emergency services, as needed.

    16. Abide by all rules and regulations regarding client confidentiality, including HIPAA and the Federal Regulations on the Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records (42 CFR [Part 2).

    17. Travel to other communities in RMHA services area on a regular basis.

    18. Be able to work independently, yet cooperatively, with a wide range of people in a Rural Alaskan Setting.

    19. Perform other duties, as assigned.

    Job Conditions:

    This position is a minimum of 40 hours per week using flexible time management to meet service delivery needs. This position is salaried and is exempt from overtime.

    Education and Experience:

    Master’s Degree in the human services field (social work, psychology, or related field) a valid license in a behavioral health discipline OR will begin to work on licensure while at the agency. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge and understanding of childhood development, mental health, social/emotional screening and assessment tools, and prevention and intervention techniques. They should also have necessary experience working with diverse and culturally unique populations. Additionally, they should be proficient in using Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and other computer functions. Good written and verbal communication skills are a must. The candidate should be able to work independently, manage time, complete assignments, and meet deadlines in a shared office space, out of the office, or via telehealth. They should also possess the ability to adapt and be flexible in a constantly changing environment that adjusts to meet organizational and community needs. Being a vital team member is essential. The candidate should be able to drive throughout the region in a reliable personal vehicle when needed (mileage reimbursement available).

    1. The ability to communicate in written and verbal form in English.

    2. The ability to drive an automobile and be a holder of a valid Alaska Drivers’ License and

    be an insurable driver.

    3. The ability to be insurable under the Agency liability coverage.

    4. The ability to travel to area communities, possibly on overnight trips and the ability to

    travel to conferences/trainings in other areas for several days at a time.

    5. The ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including a periodic emergency

    basis, the ability to work some evenings, the ability to be flexible regarding day time

    working hours.

    6. The ability to remain sober and drug-free; if recovering, the ability to abstain from use.

    7. The ability to work in a smoke-free environment.
