  • BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CLINICIAN – OUTPATIENT CLINICS

    Under the general supervision of the VP of Direct Clinical Services, the Behavioral Health Specialist – Outpatient Clinics provides intakes, assessments, treatment, psychotherapy, and referrals to a broad range of individuals.  This includes meeting regularly with members, creating individualized treatment plans and providing therapeutic and crisis intervention services.

     

    PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Diagnoses and treats mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. 
    • Provides assessments, treatments, psychotherapy, and referrals to a broad range of members.  
    • Determines the status of member’s mental health by using medical information, interviews, observation, and testing, as well as collaboration with other staff members.
    • Reviews results of psychological evaluations.
    • Reviews evaluations from community providers to assess member needs. 
    • Creates individualized treatment plans that include goals and objectives for each member.
    • Plans and administers therapeutic treatment, behavior modification, and evidence-based practices to assist members in their recovery. 
    • Meets with members regularly to provide counseling, treatment and adjusts treatment plans as necessary. 
    • Conducts ongoing assessments of member’s progress and adjusts treatment plans.
    • Recommends community services or specialists for clients and family members in need of referral services.
    • Discusses progress toward goals and objectives, such as medication regimen, family relationships, educational programs, social development, discharge plans or other behavioral problems, with clients. 
    • Consults external community providers concerning treatment plans and coordination of care. 
    • Acts as a member advocate to coordinate required services.
    • Resolves emergency problems in crisis situations. 
    • Conducts initial family assessments and refers members, or family members, to community resources or to specialists as necessary. 
    • Counsels’ members, individually and in group sessions, to assist them in coping strategies and resiliency. 
    • Provides individual and family counseling services using family management counseling techniques.
    • Prepares and maintains all required treatment records and reports. 
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    • Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures, and practices.
    • Knowledge of the DWIHN provider network and community resources.
    • Knowledge of the Michigan Mental Health Code.
    • Knowledge of MDHHS policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of Federal policies, rules, regulations, and procedures as it relates to DWIHN.
    • Knowledge of the LOCUS model & CAFAS model.
    • Knowledge of the clinical care process (screening, assessment, treatment planning, and continuing care).
    • Knowledge of and ability to use screening and assessment tools for behavioral health services.
    • Knowledge of adult and children’s outpatient services. 
    • Knowledge of Integrated Care services for behavioral health members.
    • Knowledge of medical and behavioral health practices and terminology.
    • Knowledge of Medical Necessity Criteria for Behavioral Health Services.
    • Knowledge of the Federal Confidentiality Regulations, 42 CFR, Part 2. 
    • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing.
    • Knowledge of documents / regulations that govern the provision of mental health services, e.g., Medicaid Manual Mental Health and Substance Abuse Chapter III, State Plan for Medicaid, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Quality Plan, BBA requirements and the Mental Health Code.
    • Knowledge of the practices and principles of psychological, emotional, and sociological assessment and diagnosis.
    • Knowledge of crisis training and experience in de-escalation, i.e., suicide prevention, development of crisis plans, trauma informed care, etc.
    • Knowledge of diagnostics, psychopharmacology, and supportive treatment approaches
    • Knowledge of the identification and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. 
    • Knowledge of community mental health services and resources.
    • Knowledge of the DSM-IV Statistical Manual.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION:

    A Master’s Degree from a recognized college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.

     

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

    Two (2) years of professional clinical experience in a behavioral healthcare or mental health setting.

     

    REQUIRED LICENSE(S).

    A Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure:  LMSW, LPC, LLP or PhD. 

    A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.

    CAADC License preferred.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Work is usually performed in an office setting but requires the employee to drive to different sites throughout Wayne County and the State of Michigan.
