Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     Position Summary

    The membership director is responsible for the recruitment, retention, and engagement of all current and prospective ISFA members.  The ideal candidate will provide exceptional and timely customer services to current and potential members and support the development and growth of membership programs, services, and groups. 

    Essential Functions
    • Establish value propositions that address member needs and achieve recruitment goals.
    • Develop and execute strategies to attract new members, including targeted marketing campaigns, outreach initiatives and networking opportunities.
    • Conduct market research to identify potential target audiences and explore new channels for membership growth.
    • Collaborate with other departments to develop compelling membership resources and pricing structures.
    • Develop, adopt and/or deliver membership benefits and services that align with member needs.
    • Regularly assess and quantify member experience, engagement, and satisfaction to inform strategy and address issues or concerns.
    • Works with data administrator to maintain an accurate and up-to-date membership database, including member profiles, contact information, and membership status.
    • Present regular reports on membership statistics, including growth rates, retention rates, demographic data, and projected trends.
    • Set key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of membership growth and retention goals; Establish annual membership recruitment and retention revenue goals.
    • Lead Advertising Sales and corresponding Membership/Sponsorship Sales.
      • Create and close proposal packages for ISFA's Manufacturing Members and suppliers, including membership, advertising, and sponsorship.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, education, events, and finance, to lead and coordinate membership-related activities.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to membership, sales staff, and volunteers, fostering a positive and productive outcomes-driven work environment.
    • Work with the Executive Director to identify and nurture new collaborations and relationships that support new member benefits and enhance value.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop, lead, and implement long-term membership strategies and goals.
    • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in membership management, applying innovative approaches to enhance the membership experience.
    • Liaison to one or more volunteer committees.

    Education and Other Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, marketing, communications, or a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in member services with preference given to those with association experience.
    • At least five years proven experience growing membership, recruitment, and engagement, preferably in a professional association, nonprofit organization, or similar setting.
    • Trade association experience (skill trade preferred).
    • Tech savvy.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Must possess an immediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
    • Leadership experience and the ability to motivate and inspire a team and peers.
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Curious and willing to learn.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, often changing environment.
    • Strong knowledge of membership acquisition and retention strategies.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships that drive outcomes with a diverse range of individuals.
    • Proficiency in using membership management software and databases and the ability to use and analyze data effectively.
    • Excellent customer service and presentation skills.
    • Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment.
    • Able to travel both nationally and internationally about 25% of the time.
    • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and balance competing priorities.
    • Experience in planning multi-step projects and reaching milestones on time without sacrificing accuracy and quality.
    • Ability to think strategically, anticipating future developments and planning, proactively identifying issues, and generating recommendations.
    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to perform the following physical activities adequately: standing, sitting, squatting, walking, climbing, or balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
    • Ability to lift or carry up to thirty (30) pounds.
    • Ability to travel, attend meetings and trainings.
    • Ability to perform the following sensory and communicative activities adequately: hearing, seeing, reading, and writing.
