The scientific medical writer assists faculty, fellows, residents in activities related to development and submission of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, assists in the development and preparation of grant-related materials, assists with preparation of presentations related to research-related written material. Additional activities include tracking and maintaining records, securing copyright agreements, and facilitating correspondence and completion of forms associated with publication.
Responsibilities
• Provides editorial assistance with manuscripts resulting from departmental/organizational research. • Implements critical scientific research editing to all documents while ensuring proper grammatical use consistent with professional publications. • Collaborates with research team members including coordinators, statisticians as well as authors. • Confirms that literature is properly cited and utilizes standard software to detect deviations that suggest plagiarism. • Formats manuscripts for submission by the corresponding author to appropriate journals for publication. • Provides proofreading, copyediting, and revising of final documents. • Edits tables, figures and artwork for final production. • Coordinates the publication process with editors, addresses correspondence and facilitates revisions. • Reviews literature and synthesizes findings required for manuscripts in collaboration with research personnel and author(s). • Provides writing/editing support for book chapters. • Works to assure that work completed conforms to regulatory requirements. • Secures copyright agreements as necessary in collaboration with the research coordinator. • Assists in scientific writing related to grant proposals. • Tracks management of projects and prioritizes work based on timelines for submission/revisions under the direction of the Director and maintains an up-to-date record of the status of each project. • In collaboration with research department leadership, develops a plan that outlines goals/objectives and tracking metrics. • Attends meetings with research/department groups to update status reports as needed. • Provides workshops related to scientific writing assistance and skill development of faculty, staff, residents/fellows.
