Medical Billing - Government & Third Party Liability Appeal Writer

Job Summary

The Government & Third Party Liability Appeal Writer is responsible for determining the best approach to each financial denial utilizing critical thinking, logic, and reasoning skills in order to maximize claim reimbursement.

Essential Functions/ Duties

• Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with Government & Third Party Liability payor sources for reimbursement resolution
• Conduct applicable research for writing the financial appeals for all Government & Third Party Liability payor sources in the role of advocate for the patient and GMR
• Receive the appeal request from the Appeal Prepper and ensure all necessary information is input into the appeals data base
• Ensure appeal timelines are met by moving the assigned book of business through the appeals process and updates appeals database
• Work with fixed deadlines and demonstrates willingness to meet and exceed performance metrics
• Work with the Appeal team to determine the best approach to each financial denial in order to maximize claim reimbursement and minimize the financial risk to patients and GMR.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all protected health information and cooperates fully with all information security guidelines related to the scope of work
• Work effectively independently and as a member of the team

Qualifications

Required Experience

• Must be fluent in English
• Minimum of three (3) years experience in a healthcare/revenue cycle billing environment
• Above average knowledge of Medicare Part B, Medicare Replacement Plan, and Third Party Liability billing guidelines
• Minimum of one (1) year of denial management or appeal experience
• Effective and professional written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge and experience of computers and related technology, at an intermediate level

Preferred Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year working in a call center environment
• Minimum of one (1) year working in a customer service environment

Education

• Highschool diploma or equivalent

Skills

• Excellent written communication skills
• Ability to define and identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers in a positive and productive manner
• Ability to calculate numbers, correct entries, and post to records
• Ability to gather data from hospital and EMS charts, phone calls, emails, colleagues, and internet research, then compile information and prepare reports and letters
• Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information
