Medical Technologist - Microbiology performs a variety of microbiological procedures in order to cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms in skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens. Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including virological, mycological, bacteriological, and parasitological assays for use in diagnosing and treating disease. Being a Medical Technologist - Microbiology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Microbiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Microbiology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. Summary
Medical Technologist Precisely and accurately performs and evaluates a variety of technical procedures in Blood Bank or Microbiology and at least one other Lab section/location based on State licensure and experience. Medical Technologist Utilizes all principles of quality control in the performance of laboratory testings according to established DMC and Tenet Healthcare Corporation Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and guidelines. Medical Technologist Adheres to all Federal, State and Regulatory Agency standards (Joint Commission, AHCA, AABB). Medical Technologist Performs and fulfills all HICS (Hospital Incident Command System) responsibilities as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency/disaster.
Education
Required: Minimum of Associate's Degree in Science or other qualification recognized by the State of Florida for Technologist level licensure
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Experience
Completion of an approved course of Clinical Training in Medical Technology. Generalist experience.
Certifications/Licensure/Registration
Medical Technologist II requires Florida licensure.
