Medical Technologist - Hematology jobs in Ohio

Medical Technologist - Hematology performs a variety of blood tests, studies morphology of blood constituents and performs various coagulation tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Conducts technical procedures related to the counting and identification of blood cells and other specialized hematologic tests. Being a Medical Technologist - Hematology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in blood analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Hematology may perform urinalysis studies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Hematology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     This position will support our Special Chemistry, hematology and Coagulation Lab functions. In this role, this position will be primarily responsible for the daily running of routine specimens and non-routine for all the lab sections (hematology/ Coagulation and clinical Chemistry) under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager.
     
    This position must have an understanding and must be proficient in these areas to perform a variety of specialized, routine and non-routine tests procedures for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of patients. This includes but not limited to:
    • Daily review of quality control and preventative maintenance records
    • Assist in validation projects
    • Review of proficiency surveys
    • Supply inventory status and result review.
    The technologist must demonstrate skills in the following duties and responsibilities. Examples of these include, but are not limited to the following: 
    • Able to perform duties of a technologist as necessitated by the absence or peak workload: Performing testing, validity of test results and turnaround times and reporting of test results.  
    • Organize and oversee disposition of samples according to sample retention guidelines, track samples scheduled for internal and external testing when necessary. 
    • Adhere strictly to safety procedures for work with molecular infectious disease pathogens. 
    • Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products and maintain proper records for quality control and quality assurance reports. 
    • Conduct regular checks and calibrations of laboratory methods and equipment to ensure that standard operating procedures are followed, and standards are met. 
    • Produce reliable and precise data in the performance of laboratory tests. 
    • Receive and prepare patient specimens for testing. 
    • Reagent, Calibration and Control preparation: Prepare reagents and primary reference materials as necessary. Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain instruments. Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks. Identify the cause of common problems and make simple repairs. 
    • Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained. 
    • Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptance levels of analytic performance are maintained. 
    • Assuring that all remedial actions are taken wherever test systems deviate from the laboratory established performance specifications. 
    • Assist in ongoing validation and  new Test development.  
    • Review accessioning, data entry in LIMS system. 
    • Analyze and transcribe data; assist in specimen reporting. 
    • Follow SOP, quality control and HIPPA procedures to perform job duties.
