Medical Technologist - Hematology performs a variety of blood tests, studies morphology of blood constituents and performs various coagulation tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Conducts technical procedures related to the counting and identification of blood cells and other specialized hematologic tests. Being a Medical Technologist - Hematology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in blood analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Hematology may perform urinalysis studies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or supervisor. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Hematology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. This position will perform overnight sleep studies, including both applying electrodes and sensors to patients in preparation for each study as well as monitoring and assisting patients throughout the night.
Job Duties to Include:
Providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep and arousal disorders, including diagnostic testing and therapeutic interventions
Using critical thinking, independent judgment, and advanced knowledge of sleep technology, sleep/wake disorders, and associated co-morbid conditions.
Coordinating and communicating with an interdisciplinary team.
Participating in teaching, evaluating, and advising students.

Required Education and License/Certification:
Completion of one of the below:
24-month END Technology program accredited by CAAHEP with an add-on Polysomnography certificate or
Polysomnographic educational program accredited by CAAHEP or
2-year or 4-year Respiratory Care program accredited by CoARC with an add-on Polysomnography certificate or
License in another Health Science Field or
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Certification or Eligible for Certification by one of the below:
Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or
American Board of Sleep Medicine (RST) or
National Board of Respiratory Care (CRT-SDS or RRT-SDS)
Certification must be completed within 9 months of appointment.
Licensed by the State of Iowa as a Polysomnographic Technologist or becomes licensed at first opportunity after appointment.
Required Experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
General computer skills
