Medical Scribe acts as an assistant during the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Documents and gathers information during the treatment process. Being a Medical Scribe organizes healthcare data to provide better service and efficiency of clinical care. Typically requires an associate degree. Additionally, Medical Scribe may require certification as a Medical Scribe by the American College of Clinical Information Managers (ACCIM). Typically reports to a physician. The Medical Scribe works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Emergency Center Scribe

    General Job / Performance Information

    This position is for PART-TIME, DAY TIME SHIFTS. Typical shifts are 7 AM to 7 PM or 11 AM to 11 PM, and the days will vary from week to week depending on physician / APP scheduling.

    Education and Experience

    High school / GED

    Some college preferred

    Medical terminology preferred

    Anatomy & Physiology preferred

    Environmental / Working Conditions

    Works in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital.

    Exposure to blood-borne pathogens is high risk.

    Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

    This position requires close interaction with other ancillary departments to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

    Job Description

    Scribing patient database, limited physician orders, and physician notes into Electronic Medical Record.

    Retrieve and collate patient records.

    Telephone and communication liaison for the physician.

    Patient room set up as appropriate.

    Monitor First Net Patient Tracking board and communicate the status of pending diagnostic tests to physicians and nursing staff, and facilitate patient flow in general.

    Assist as appropriate with coordination of patient / family care in a patient relations function.

    Assist physicians with DME arrangements and clinic referral appointments.

    Miscellaneous tasks assigned to facilitate physician efficiency.

    Physical Capabilities

    Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting, and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting of patients with assistance is required.

    Talking and hearing are essential in communication with patients, physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary support staff and in receiving doctor's orders and doctor's notes.

    Near visual acuity is required to work with charts and records.

    Skills and Abilities

    Must maintain excellent computer skills and data entry skills; Electronic Medical Record accessing and data entry, word processing, excel spreadsheet, Lawson.

    Fluent in medical terminology.
