Medical Records Transcriptionist transcribes medical dictation by physicians and other medical practitioners pertaining to patients assessment, diagnostics, therapy, and other medical reports. Understands medical terminology and the use of transcription software and equipment. Being a Medical Records Transcriptionist requires a high school diploma. May require Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS). Additionally, Medical Records Transcriptionist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Transcriptionist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Responsibilities include:
-Answering the phone in a timely manner
-Must be extremely organized and be able to multi-task
-Routing calls accordingly depending on caller's inquiry
-Must be bilingual (English and Spanish) and speak both languages properly and professionally
-Must have phone etiquette
-Must be able to handle high call volume and be extremely organized
-Must be a team player and be able to work alone as well without much supervision
-Prior experience within the medical field is a plus but not required
-Must have high school diploma or GED
