Medical Records Technician abstracts clinical information from medical records and assigns the appropriate ICD or CPT codes using industry-standard coding guidelines. Assigns required DRG (diagnosis-related grouping) codes. Being a Medical Records Technician works with coding databases and software to input and maintain data according to standard procedures. Performs quality audits of work. Additionally, Medical Records Technician maintains and up-to-date knowledge of coding and documentation requirements. Does not require a medical coding certification. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Under the direction of the CMH IT Program Supervisor performs technical assistance and support for billing and state reporting functions requiring detailed knowledge of EMR (Electronic Medical Record) system and reporting requirements. Reviews, tests and supports system functionality related to billing. Assists in the technical setup required to meet billing and reporting requirements of external regulatory and accreditation bodies.
This is a full-time benefited position working out of the James Street Campus in Holland, Michigan. Travel to other County locations as needed. Typical working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.
The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, and/or Statistics. One to two years of experience in mental health management or administration preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and experience in analysis of Medicaid/Medicare services utilization is preferred Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license is required. Lived experiences with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders are valued.
