Medical Records Technician abstracts clinical information from medical records and assigns the appropriate ICD or CPT codes using industry-standard coding guidelines. Assigns required DRG (diagnosis-related grouping) codes. Being a Medical Records Technician works with coding databases and software to input and maintain data according to standard procedures. Performs quality audits of work. Additionally, Medical Records Technician maintains and up-to-date knowledge of coding and documentation requirements. Does not require a medical coding certification. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Description

    Good Shepherd Hospice is seeking a compassionate candidate for our Medical Records Clerk position at our WICHITA,KS office
    The Medical Records Clerk plays an important role within our Good Shepherd Hospice Team by helping to ensure that medical records are accurate, complete and meet all regulatory and compliance standards. The Medical Records Clerk also assists the administrative staff with responsibilities and other assignments as requested under the supervision of the Office Manager and Executive Director. 
    • Full Time: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM


    Key Responsibilities

    • Promptly and courteously answers and screens phone calls; routes calls as appropriate within established customer service guidelines; accurately records messages and delivers to the appropriate party.
    • Greets visitors, guests, and patients promptly and courteously; ascertains their needs and provides assistance in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Promptly sorts, opens and distributes mail.
    • Creates and diligently maintains a variety of confidential files in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Monitors office and medical supply levels and orders accordingly.
    • Assists with correspondence.
    • Other administrative duties as assigned.


    Skills Knowledge and Expertise

    • High School diploma with one to two years of medical records experience required.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Able to multi-task and demonstrative initiative with assigned responsibilities.
    • Detailed oriented
    • A team player who can keep deadlines and provide appropriate communication regarding progress with projects and requests.
    • Homecare Homebase experience preferred.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
    • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of HIPAA and privacy of information regulations.
