Medical Records Technician abstracts clinical information from medical records and assigns the appropriate ICD or CPT codes using industry-standard coding guidelines. Assigns required DRG (diagnosis-related grouping) codes. Being a Medical Records Technician works with coding databases and software to input and maintain data according to standard procedures. Performs quality audits of work. Additionally, Medical Records Technician maintains and up-to-date knowledge of coding and documentation requirements. Does not require a medical coding certification. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Reports to: Operations Manager
    Location: South Charleston, WV
    Employment Status: Full-Time

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

    Position Summary: Aldevra is currently seeking a qualified Medical Records Technicians to support the Army National Guard in South Charleston, WV.

    This position is contingent upon contract award.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Maintain and update military medical records.
    • Process medical records for individuals scheduled for basic military training, technical schools, transfer and discharge, retirement, and death.
    • Assist with periodic health assessment and physical examination.
    • Review medical records for individuals scheduled for PHAs or physical exam and identify deficiencies.
    • Edit review and validate medical records for accuracy and completeness.
    • Assist with medical deployment eligibility determination as defined by current military guidelines.
    • Prescreen medical records for deploying soldiers.
    • Review military unique individual readiness requirement.
    • Conduct annual medical and dental records reviews.
    • Perform quality assurance checks on in-coming and out-going medical and dental records and track all discrepancies and deficiencies to closure.
    • Enable the use of electronic health record systems and other health information technologies.

    Requirements

    Security Requirements:

    • A National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) is required, and a favorable completion of FBI fingerprint History Check must be completed. 
    • A Common Access Card (CAC) is required for Base access and the Local Access Network (LAN).

    This position requires passing an extensive background check.

    Qualifications:

    • 2 years of relevant experience 
    • Associate degree, vocational training in health information management or a related military certification is preferred
    • Familiarity with HIPAA, privacy and security 
    • Experience in medical records management or related administrative roles
    • Proficiency in using computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software
    • Familiarity with military-specific health information systems 
    • Understanding of medical terminology to accurately interpret and manage medical records.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills and telephone manner
    • Excellent and accurate written communication
    • Excellent attention to detail; accurate data entry
    • Customer Focused and team-oriented work ethic
    • Able to multi-task efficiently and accurately, focusing on quality
