Medical Records Research Coordinator is responsible for organizing and overseeing the record keeping activities pertaining to releasing and retrieving medical records for research projects. Ensures all medical records are tracked and released according to HIPAA guidelines. Being a Medical Records Research Coordinator may require an associate degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Research Coordinator possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. The Medical Record Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day processing of medical records (paper and electronic), as well as organizing, filing, and retrieving patient medical records. Other duties include but are not limited to scanning medical documents (including diagnostic testing), patient exam notes, external medical correspondence and medical records requests; assist surgery scheduler with administrative tasks, paperwork, and phone calls; cover front desk and other administrative duties as assigned.
• Maintain patient confidentiality by keeping patient records information confidential.
• Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, and procedures; federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHPO standards.
• Organize, file, and retrieve patient medical records as requested.
• Knowledge of medical record control, access, and storage in accordance with established policies and regulations.
• Prepare and process the release of internal medical records in accordance with HIPAA, sate, and federal regulations.
• Receive incoming correspondence and review/forward to appropriate department or staff.
• Receive, screen, and coordinate telephone calls from patients and healthcare providers.
• Scan internal medical records as needed.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience.
• Ability to interact very well with patients, visitors and co-workers on a
routine basis.
• One year experience in medical clerical position or related customer
service position.
