Medical Librarian (MLS) provides guidance and assistance to users researching medical information using database searches, inter-library loans, and other resources. Ensures the cataloging and circulation of materials are performed efficiently and correctly according to policies and standards. Being a Medical Librarian (MLS) creates training materials and delivers library instruction and education programs for physicians and other staff. Leads or contributes ideas for library strategic planning, quality initiatives, and the development of digital media and educational resources. Additionally, Medical Librarian (MLS) maintains current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Medical Librarian (MLS) occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. A Librarian I is responsible for the application of the full scope of basic professional library knowledge and techniques. Employees perform the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this entry-level classification, including application of fundamental library science principles and practices. Responsibilities may include one or more of the following: developing and presenting adult, teen, and children’s programming; outreach, social media, and digital literacy; and other community building services. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and accepted library practices and procedures. This class performs related duties as required.
Depending on assignment, supervision may be received from a Librarian III or Branch Coordinator, who reviews work through conferences, meetings, reports, and results achieved. Night and weekend work is required. This class is FLSA exempt-professional. (Part-time employees in this class are FLSA non-exempt).
