Helps with computer searches, inter-library loans, cataloging, circulation, general reference and questions about library services. Being a Medical Librarian Assistant organizes and shelves materials and prepares new materials for circulation. May perform data entry to update library systems. Additionally, Medical Librarian Assistant may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Librarian Assistant works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. The Medical Assistant will assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Accompany patients to exam / procedure room.
o Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
o Collect patient information / history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
o Relay instructions to patients / families.
o Schedule appointments.
o Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
o Clean exam / procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
o Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam / procedure rooms.
o Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
o Assist physicians with procedures.
Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
Medical Assistant :
Medical Assistant, Senior :
o OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA)
o OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :
Clearances must be dated within 90 days.
