Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will be responsible for facilitating communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who can hear. Your role will involve interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa, ensuring effective communication in various settings. Responsibilities: - Provide sign language interpretation services in educational, medical, legal, and community settings - Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign systems - Translate sign language into spoken language for individuals who do not understand sign language - Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard of hearing individuals and hearing individuals - Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards - Continuously develop your knowledge of sign language and stay updated on new signs and terminology - Collaborate with other professionals, such as teachers, doctors, lawyers, and social workers, to ensure accurate interpretation Qualifications: - Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other sign systems - Strong linguistic skills with the ability to interpret accurately and effectively - Excellent communication skills in both spoken language and sign language - Knowledge of deaf culture and sensitivity towards the needs of deaf or hard of hearing individuals - Ability to work in a variety of settings and adapt to different communication styles - Certification from a recognized interpreting program or equivalent experience is preferred - Multilingual or bilingual skills are a plus Note: All positions at our company are paid positions.
