Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Shenandoah Community Health is seeking a Spanish-Speaking Medical Interpreter to join our dynamic team in serving patients!
Job Summary:
The Medical Interpreter will perform a variety of interpretation, translation, and other services to assist non-English speaking patients receiving care within Shenandoah Community Health.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Participate as a neutral party in the role as a conduit of information that must flow between staff and the patient.
- Ensure that information pertaining to the patient's services (such as hospitalization, advanced directives, consents from treatment, diagnosis and prognosis, treatment plan, follow-up appointments and Health Care Education) are accurately communicated.
- Ensure that the patient's questions and concerns regarding their treatment and additional information are appropriately addressed.
- Provide interpreter services, and convey the exact message as opposed to summarizing information in a way that is subjective.
- Promote customer service satisfaction!
- Participate in continuing education programs and competency training to enhance role.
- Ensure that all policies and procedures related to process, service, and employee work rules are followed.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to patient care and visitor issues on non-English speaking patients, families, and escorts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of conversion/translation competency testing in secondary language (Spanish-Speaking).
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
