Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     The Position
    Park Interpreters plan, organize, provide and supervise a variety of interpretive facilities, services and activities and assist in the operation and maintenance of an assigned State park.
    This position is located at Ice Age Fossils State Park in North Las Vegas, Nevada. This 315-acre park is renowned for its fossils from Pleistocene megafauna, complex geology, and history of scientific investigation. The park features a modern visitor center and network of interpretive hiking trails that will officially open to the public near the end of 2023. Candidates work under the general supervision of the Park Supervisor in all aspects of park operations including visitor services, interpretation, content development, custodial services, building and grounds maintenance, fee collection, gift store operations, museum operations, and volunteer management.
    The position is responsible for developing, preparing, and delivering interpretive programs and guided hikes as well as managing and curating the park's paleontological, archeological, and historical collections. This position is responsible for community outreach and educational programs for local schools and community groups, designing and creating brochures, interpretive signage, exhibits, audiovisual programs, and managing the park's online media presence. The position recruits, trains, and supervises park volunteers, interns, and subordinate seasonal staff. This position is responsible for submitting monthly and assigned reports, scheduling group, and tour reservations, providing emergency medical assistance, informing public of park rules and regulations, and ensuring compliance with park policies and procedures. This position requires the use of general office equipment, cash registers, credit card machines, four-wheel drive vehicles, light maintenance equipment, and basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PastPerfect Museum Software. Social media management and photography are important skills for this position. Park Interpreters are required to work variable hours and shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and must be available to work special events and respond to callouts or emergencies. Some statewide travel may be required. Park housing is not available at this location.     To Qualify:
    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in park management, outdoor recreation management, history/folklore, education, ecology, forestry, biology, agriculture, natural or environmental sciences, horticulture, wildlife management, museum management, business or public administration or related field and one year of professional park experience which included developing, managing and presenting interpretive and/or educational activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    Positions may be subject to call back and work various hours and/or shifts.

    Special Requirements

    This position may require travel up to 25% of the time.

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
