Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Overview

    Provide accurate and complete interpretation services to facilitate oral communication between Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, families and CM staff. Supports patient safety and ensures that LEP individuals have meaningful access to information and equal opportunity to participate in services. A limited number of employees in this position are eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. A hybrid schedule will only be offered to employee(s) who have undergone an application/screening process. The selected candidates will work with leadership to determine how time is split between remote and in-office work, based on business need.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide accurate, complete and impartial interpretation services for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, family members and CM staff.
    • Models exemplary customer service through the delivery of interpretation services to patients, families and CM staff that is consistent with the philosophy, mission, vision and values of the department and organization.
    • Performs other duties and participates in other projects or committees that support hospital and departmental priorities or activities.

    Qualifications

    • HS diploma or equivalent and Completion of Pediatric Medical Interpreter Training Program at Children's Mercy
    • National Certification Preferred

    Starting Pay

    Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $20.49/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

    Remote Work/Work from Home

    This position is not eligible work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
