PURPOSE:
Provides overall direction and supervision of medical/clinical aspects of the services delivered for the Agency.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION
- Supports the Agency's mission, vision, philosophy and core values.
- Serves as the Medical Director for North Carolina Residential and Community based programs .
- Must have two or more years of training and experience diagnosing, treating and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment of child and adolescent mental health. The two or more years of training and experience must include face-to-face treatment and interventions as demonstrated by a caseload of clients with primary mental health or substance abuse disorder diagnosis.
- Provides overall supervision of all medical/clinical aspects of the services delivered.
- Assists in management of clients through participation in multidisciplinary treatment process.
- Ensures the coordination between the mental health services being delivered with primary physical care healthcare providers.
- Consults with primary healthcare providers on the clinical aspects of the clients being served and the implications for those clients physical healthcare needs.
- Coordinates with medical staff of other providers (e.g. state and community inpatient and outpatient facilities).
- Supervision of all medical staff within the Agency.
- Serves as a resource person to staff and participates in staffing for complex or high risk individuals with psychiatric issues.
- Remains current with required documentations, assessments and treatment plans and ensure that the treatments are current, appropriate, and follow accepted guidelines and community standards, and are not experimental in nature.
- Prescribes medications as a component of treatment plans, explains purpose to other staff, and monitors effectiveness of all medication interventions.
- Ensures that all discharged clients, currently receiving medication, leave with a 30-day prescription supply.
- Orders and evaluates routine lab work and medical tests for medication management on individual clients as necessary.
- Remains on-call for emergency purposes, unless other arrangements are made.
- Provides back-up psychiatric services in the event of absences due to vacation, conferences or extended illness.
- Ensures proper documentation of services rendered as evidenced by signature and dating of all medication orders, service notes, evaluation and management notes form, discharge summaries, and referrals.
- Assists with developing, monitoring and evaluating treatment programs.
- Conducts psychiatric evaluations (preferably in person) for clients on the Saint Peter's Lane Campus within one week of admission to residential services unless there are significant circumstances that prevent timely evaluations (i.e. illness or injury). Ensures quality, comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and/or assessments are completed in a timely manner for other services.
- Provides weekly medication evaluation to clients in our PRTF and other residential clients as needed. (preferably in person)
- Works in collaboration with the leadership to identify appropriate evidence-based or emerging best practice therapies to be employed by staff delivering services
- Reviews and assumes primary responsibility with collaboration from the Quality Assurance department in death reviews with all reporting responsibilities to appropriate local and state agencies.
- In collaboration with the leadership, facilitates linkages with other providers for appropriate services not provided through the Agency.
- Assists with developing, monitoring and evaluating treatment programs.
- All other duties as requested by Chief Officers or President.

Requirements
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
This position requires an M.D. Degree and must be Board Eligible or a Board Certified Psychiatrist in North Carolina. Must have two or more years of professional experience including face-to-face treatment and interventions working with child, adolescent, and adult mental health. Good verbal and written communication skills needed. Experience indicates strong abilities to work well with other people. Must be in enrolled and in good standing with NC Medicaid.
