Additionally, Medical Director advises non medical management on clinical and patient related matters and policies. Requires a MD degree. Typically reports to top management.     Purpose Statement:
    We are seeking a Medical Director who specializes in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine.

    Rushton Recovery is a behavioral healthcare company dedicated to helping those in need of life-saving treatment for alcoholism or substance abuse addiction. We are committed to providing a safe environment for withdrawal management, evidence-based therapeutic services, and expert care for addiction treatment.

    The Medical Director will provide 24-hour management of the Medical Services at Rushton Recovery while providing effective leadership to staff and the highest quality of care to its clients. The candidate is responsible for leadership, quality assurance, oversight, and overall medical management at the program. Core duties include planning patient care, providing direct patient care and assisting other departments with direct interactions with physicians or medical staff.

    Qualifications:
    • Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD or DO)
    • A) Be certified in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine by a recognized board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, including the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Board of Preventive Medicine or have held a prior certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine
    OR
    • B) Be trained in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine through continuing medical education pursuant to subrule (4) of this rule offered by the American Board of Medical Specialties, American Board of Addiction Medicine, American Society of Addiction Medicine, American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, American Association for Treatment of Opioid Dependence, American Association of Osteopathic Addiction Medicine, the Michigan counterparts of these organizations, or other national or state programs acknowledged and accepted by the department.
    Licenses & Designations:
    • Current license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan
    • Board certification or certificate of admissibility for board certification by American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP), or other certification within their discipline
    • Current DEA credentials to prescribe controlled substances without restrictions and per regulation within the state in which the practitioner will be working
    • Additional specific DEA credentials may be required, per state and clinic regulations or policy

    Responsibilities:
    Medical Oversight:
    • Provide clinical leadership and oversight to the medical staff, ensuring that all medical services meet or exceed industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Building collaboration between medical and clinical services teams.
    • Oversees and is responsible for the quality, efficiency, and management of delivering medical services within the program
    • Review/ Approve medical protocols, treatment plans, and policies.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to addiction treatment within the State of Michigan
    Clinical Supervision:
    • Supervise and collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and support staff.
    • Provide guidance on evidence-based medical and clinical practices for substance abuse treatment.
    • Participate in regular case reviews and treatment team meetings.
    Patient Assessment and Care:
    • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments of patients upon admission.
    • Develop individualized treatment plans based on medical and psychiatric evaluations.
    • Monitor and adjust treatment plans as needed, considering the complex medical and psychological needs of patients.
    Medication Management:
    • Establish initial medication plan, including but not limited detox protocol and scheduled detox tapers.
    • Prescribe and manage medications to address withdrawal symptoms, mental health issues, and other medical conditions related to substance abuse.
    • Monitor medication adherence and potential side effects.
    • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.
    Staff Training and Education:
    • Provide training to clinical and non-clinical staff on medical and psychiatric aspects of substance abuse treatment.
    • Stay informed about the latest developments in addiction medicine and share relevant updates with the team.
    Quality Improvement and Compliance:
    • Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives related to medical and clinical care.
    • Ensure adherence to accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
    Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as counseling, therapy, and administrative teams, to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.
    • Communicate effectively with external healthcare providers, consultants, and agencies involved in patient care.
    Emergency Response:
    • Develop and oversee emergency response protocols for medical situations, including overdose, withdrawal complications, and psychiatric crises.
    • Provide guidance in emergencies and coordinate with emergency medical services when necessary.
    Continuous Professional Development:
    • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in addiction medicine and related fields.
    • Pursue and maintain relevant certifications and licenses.
    Community Engagement:
    • Participate in community outreach and education programs to raise awareness about substance abuse and available treatment options.
    • Build relationships with local healthcare providers and community organizations.
