Medical Device Lab Technician works in a laboratory setting, producing medical devices such as prosthetics or orthotics, implants, or other devices. Configures and constructs devices to specifications established by a physician or other health care provider. Being a Medical Device Lab Technician utilizes tools and precision instruments to result in customized fit, optimal function, and maximum comfort for the patient. Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles defective or worn devices or appliances. Additionally, Medical Device Lab Technician works closely with the Orthotist or Prosthetist. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Device Lab Technician works under moderate supervision. The Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist performs clinical laboratory testing in various sections of the Laboratory. A MLT/MT receives specimens, performs clinical laboratory tests by standardized procedures, understands method principles; performs quality control and preventative maintenance; and interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. The Technologist works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records all data obtained. The Technologist interacts with nurses and staff of nursing facilities and other clients, calling critical results and resolving any issues.
Education & Training: Completion of a Bachelors degree in a related science or an accredited program in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technician program or a combination of education and experience along with a nationally recognized certification at the technologist level or 3 years of MLT experience. Military qualifications/training will be reviewed on a case by case basis. In addition to the above, individuals must meet federal and state requirements to perform moderate complexity testing.
