Medical Device Lab Technician works in a laboratory setting, producing medical devices such as prosthetics or orthotics, implants, or other devices. Configures and constructs devices to specifications established by a physician or other health care provider. Being a Medical Device Lab Technician utilizes tools and precision instruments to result in customized fit, optimal function, and maximum comfort for the patient. Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles defective or worn devices or appliances. Additionally, Medical Device Lab Technician works closely with the Orthotist or Prosthetist. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Device Lab Technician works under moderate supervision. Performs complete pacemaker ICD and ILR interrogations. Evaluates operating parameter settings battery life lead impedance sensitivity and threshold/voltage/pulse wave and rhythm abnormalities. Edits and forwards final test results to the attending Physician for analysis and interpretation. re-programs and troubleshoots devices as needed. Carries out duties in compliance with applicable laws and DHMF compliance standards which include inquiring about any uncertainties regarding legal requirements and promptly reporting suspected improprieties to DHMFs leadership. Protects patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA privacy/security regulations including inquiring about any uncertainties and promptly reporting suspected improprieties to the Clinic and/or DHMF Leadership.
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years relevant experience and/or applicable education
Proficient in electrocardiogram interpretation including complex arrhythmias.
Ability to recognize and appropriately treat cardiac device problems under the supervision of the cardiologist.
Ability to operate and troubleshoot all cardiac device programmers
EKG Certificate preferred.
Certification or accredited training courses for Pacemaker setting changes strongly preferred.
3 or more years experience in Cardiology department preferred.
Experience with cardiac devices strongly preferred.
Knowledge of implantable cardiac devices and cardiac arrhythmias preferred.
