Medical Device Lab Technician works in a laboratory setting, producing medical devices such as prosthetics or orthotics, implants, or other devices. Configures and constructs devices to specifications established by a physician or other health care provider. Being a Medical Device Lab Technician utilizes tools and precision instruments to result in customized fit, optimal function, and maximum comfort for the patient. Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles defective or worn devices or appliances. Additionally, Medical Device Lab Technician works closely with the Orthotist or Prosthetist. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Device Lab Technician works under moderate supervision. Meritus Medical Laboratory is led by four board-certified pathologists who provide medical and technical support in addition to consultation. The balance of our technical staff is composed of medical technologists and medical laboratory technicians. Specimen collection is facilitated by our staff of 60 phlebotomists, plus a full complement of couriers and registration clerks. Highly trained customer service reps and administrative staff work diligently to provide our clients and patients with the service and results they need and deserve. We strive to maintain that dependability with every patient.
Meritus Medical Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and adheres to the requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) '88 and requirements of the State of Maryland. Meritus Medical Laboratory is enrolled in the CAP Proficiency Testing Program, the CAP Tech Sample Program, and participates in the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Check Sample Program.
Our testing expertise and instrumentation include:
Education – Associate’s degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program which is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or Associate’s degree in a laboratory related science such as Biology or Chemistry and equivalent training, education, and experience (such as military training)
Experience – One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience preferred with Associate’s degree and completion of a Medical Technology program. One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience required for laboratory science Associate’s Degree such as Biology or Chemistry.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Working knowledge of general types of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.) keyboard, LIS, calculators, fax, auto analyzers. Basic computer skills required.
