Brief Summary:

Responsible for overall support to the Patient Accounts Department. This may include assisting the Patient Benefits Coordinator, Pharmacy Billing Clerk, Dental Billing Clerk, Medical Billing Clerk or Registrars.

Essential Job Functions:

• Investigate credit balances, research unidentified cash accounts.
• Set up payment plans if needed.
• Compile billing forms from various departments and uploads daily to billing service.
• Research problem accounts for billing service.
• Verify benefits and explain dental benefits to patients and providers.
• Complete pre-certifications when necessary.
• Collect co-pays on self-pay portions at time of service.
• Ensure correct HCPCS Codes are on Pyxis's slips for billing service.
• Notify Pharmacy of any medications that need pre-certification or justification.
• Answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously.
• Collect patient health insurance information and/or third-party payor information.
• Obtain a copy of the patient's insurance card and/or tribal membership card.
• Assist patients in completing and updating forms for the RPMS Patient Registration System; including outpatient, inpatient, emergency and specialty clinic patients.
• Identify patients whose health benefits are subject to prior approval and notify medical personnel of such.
• Obtain signatures from patients on required forms for alternate resources and contacts health services prior to patient being seen in the clinics for billing purposes.
• Enter all patient health and billing-related information into RPMS; updating & making corrections as necessary.
• Interview patients at the initial time of service in order to determine available accessible resources for which the patient is eligible.
• Assist in making and/or coordinating arrangements with or for the patient in order to complete any required paperwork for the alternative resource
• Call to remind patients of their appointments, check demographic information at that time
• Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Some accounting experience or training preferred.
