Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical records. Being a Medical Assistant prepares treatment rooms for the examination of patients. May draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Additionally, Medical Assistant may perform administrative duties such as ordering supplies, answering the phone, and scheduling appointments. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RCA) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Medical Assistant works under moderate supervision. General Description:
The Medical Assistant, as a member of the Emergency Department team, is responsible for ensuring that timely and safe care of the highest quality is available to all patients in the Emergency Departments. S/he provides safe, prudent, economical patient care in compliance with GRMC standards of nursing care. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate and explain required information to patients. Promotes and adheres to all regulatory and safety standards; OSHA. Maintains required certifications and core competencies.
