Works to expand understanding of the organization's business, performance, and strategy. Being a Media Relations Manager prepares summaries of media activity for senior management. May serve as the company's spokesperson. Additionally, Media Relations Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Media Relations Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Media Relations Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship management skills.
    • The ability to collaborate strategically with colleagues across departments in order to reach communications goals and objectives.
    • The ability and willingness to be assertive in meeting the goals of the department in making media placements.
    • The acumen to match institutional strengths with prevailing trends in communications in order to showcase the University.
    • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays if required.

    Required Education and/or Experience
    • A Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism or related field.
    • 3 years of related professional experience in public relations or journalism.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • An Advanced Degree in journalism or related communications field.
    • Established network of media contacts.
    • Short-form videography and video editing skills.
